AB Genesis – Effects

Overview

A.B. Genesis uses SoX plugin to incorporate effects into audio books (see sox(1) – Linux man page for more details). Effects varies a lot, going from simple Boolean value (Reverb, Overdrive) to sophisticated expressions such as “echo 0.8 0.9 1000 0.3 1800 0.25”.

Named parameters

The more complex values (echo, chorus, tremolo, fades) assembled as “ready-to-use” elements, which can later be modified or added. For example, “echo 0.8 0.9 1000 0.3 1800 0.25” is tagged as “Mountains”. They can be consulted or modified in the “Effects” tab.

Project Effects

By default, around 30 simple effects are offered for quick access. In many cases, there will be a need for new effects or combination. Each project can add new effects. In the example above, an effect called “hello” was added which increase output volume by 6dB, includes revered and adds a tremolo at 2Hz for 40ms. A new one can be added using the “New” button.

Effects can also be modified on the ribbon.
