AB Genesis – UI – Using Ambiance

Overview

Ambiances (also referred as “scenes”) are background audio to help situate the listener. Low music in a bar, wind and birds in the meadows, people playing tennis on other courts or simply students creaking their wooden seats during an exam. They can also be music to accompany the mood.

Scene foleys are typically long and loop-able foleys that will be made to fill the duration of the “ambiance.” It is very frequent that a scene starts at the beginning of a scene and lasts until the end, By default, scenes are lowered by 6db when mixed, but it is common for scenes to make use of Volume effects to get them ever lower to avoid interfering with the narration or dialogs.

Beginning a Scene

To begin a scene, select the block to be the first in the scene, or put the caret in a text box where you want the scene to begin. Insert the scene. Here we have selected “Scourmont Office” to start after all the identification texts.

The scene indicator will appear in a paragraph of its own and the background of all the text covered by the ambiance will become light gray.

Ending a Scene

A scene ends when a new Scene begins or that the special “end-scene” foley is used. In this example, the scene ends when Boris exits the Prince’s office.
